JANIS JOPLIN - Joplin in Concert 1972

I played this album endlessly when I first brought it home.
Another gatefold from the 70s (they loved their gatefolds back then) this one had a daring braless photo of Janis in all her wild abandoned glory.

Released in 1972 after her death, the double album is made up of various live concert performances in 1968 and 1970. The first record is with Big Brother and the Holding Company, the second is with Full Tilt Boogie.

The records were cut to suit the times. In order to be able to play each set more or less continuously, Side 1 was backed with Side 4 and Side 2 backed with Side 3. This meant you could put them on an auto changer, play Side 1 - drop - 2, turn them over and play 3 - drop - 4.

Kids today will have absolutely no clue what the hell I'm talking about :)

Drop the needle on the first track of the first side .. the guitar plays a couple of loose chords, Janis coughs slightly, then her voice fills the speakers .. 'Well down on me ..' and the band comes in with a driving throbbing hit. 50 years later she is still spine-tinglingly great.
